Location
Image taken at Speers Point NSW right at my very own front door. This is exactly the reason I chose to live there.Time
Was taken after photographing some bands at 12 midnight.Lighting
You have to expose for a daylight situation when photographing lightning at night otherwise you can risk blow out. A great big white mass of nothing. This is all dependant on distance and brightness. How much rain is in the front etc..Equipment
Nikon D610 24-85mm lensInspiration
Lightning and all nature is what I do.Editing
For post processing, bring in the highlights, take out the shadow and re-adjust the whites. In my camera bag
My bag is a Nikon D610 body, 16-35mm wide angle, 24-85mm kit lens which I love, as this lens was designed specifically for the body. All ND filters, 4,8,16,64,1000 and polarizer. Sturdy tripod, remote timer, 64gb 95mbs card, wet weather shield back up batteries.Feedback
Location and lightning has to be well thought. Why just have a strike, you need to plan the shoot as in any other, see where the lightning is, which direction it's heading, how much rain is in front of the lightning, are you going to get wet, whats your escape route, and importantly. what other subject matter can you utilize. For this image I really wanted a decent reflection of the strike with it lighing up boats etc which was achieved.
