Emery County, Utah, contains pediment hills covered by rock and boulders and shale hills mixed with sandstone. Foot hills can be several hundred feet high and adorned with sandstone or shale ledges. They were made by huge rivers flowing from a slowly uplifting mountain, now the Wasatch Plateau, some 60-80 million years ago.
