Behind The Lens

Location

On the TTC StreetCar on Bathurst Street in Toronto Ontario Canada. It was a very hot Saturday afternoon when when this young man got on with all of the iced coffees and burgers, I said "Now that's dedication", he smiled. I asked him if I could take his picture and he said yes, he turned his head away as he didn't want his full face in the shot.

Time

This was mid-day and the sun was to his back, it was a little dark on my side of the streetcar. The original picture was washed out, so I had to do some post production.

Lighting

On a busy Streetcar, the lighting was bad, so I had to do some post production work to tone it down some.

Equipment

This was shot hand held with a Canon EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II. Focal Length 24.00 mm. Exposure 1/60 sec f/11; ISO 800; Manual; Centerweighted Average Metering; No Flash

Inspiration

I felt the young man had dedication. It was a hot sweltering day and he went and got his friends/co-workers burgers and Iced Coffees. He went 4 stops on the streetcar...I call that dedication.

Editing

I always use Camera Raw to tone up/tone down the picture. I use it to remove purple fringe and set it to the correct camera lens. Then I used a Topaz Labs just a little bit to get a Grunge HDR look.

In my camera bag

I've upgraded to a T5I with an 18-135 mm lens. Normally I don't take a bag, I just take my camera. Sometimes when I take my bag, I have my prime 50 lens and my 18-200 mm zoom lens and take a tripod. For this adventure I knew I was going to be on busy street cars, buses and trains, so I only took my camera.

Feedback

If you see a good shot take it. If it involves someone sitting/standing close to you, please ask if you can take the shot.
