Baby chicks are so much fun to watch! Their newborn chick fuzz changes to feathers almost fast enough to sit and watch. This little chick seems to be proud of those new feathers growing out. I enjoy animals and also love photographing them as they grow and change.

Location
This photo was taken on our small farmette in PA. The chick is standing on old wooden boards covering a hand dug well that we still use. The background is a large maple tree.Time
This is one of my favorite spots to take pictures. This spot has filtered shade in the morning. This picture was taken around 9am.Lighting
The sun comes up behind the maple trees. I have good light, but it is not harsh sunlight. It makes the perfect spot! It's bright enough for good pictures, but not harsh light that takes out the color or depth in the pictures.Equipment
I used my Canon EOS 7d MkII with my Canon EF-S 60mm 1:2.8 USM macro lens. I did not use a tripod, but I do lay my camera down on the boards of the well to get a steady shot. If I wanted a different angle, I would definitely try a tripod.Inspiration
I love animals. I love to watch them grow from birth until they are full grown. It is fun to see them change and develop. Chicks are one of the fastest developing animals I've watched grow. It fascinates me to watch that chick fuzz develop into feathers. They develop so quickly, it seems like you could sit and watch the feathers develop. I've photographed newborn chicks, and just thought it would be fun to take some with those little feathers as they develop. This picture displays the inspiration of watching those feathers develop. You can almost imagine the feathers growing.Editing
I did color deepening and a bit of sharpness, but not much.In my camera bag
I'm hoping to add to my collection. Currently I carry my Canon 7d MkII and my 60mm lens. I sometimes have a secondary zoom lens, but I don't have a whole lot in my bag.Feedback
Photography is something that takes imagination and creativity. You never know what you'll catch when you are using your imagination and skills to capture things with your camera. Go out and play with your camera. I'm an amateur. I love photography and I love to just take pictures of things I love. You don't have to have lots of expensive equipment. It's nice, but I just use the few things I have. Your eye, learning thirds, playing around with different lighting, they are all going to help you to become a better photographer and develop a spot that you feel good in. Just get out there and try!
