Location
I took the photo of the palm tree from my yard in Venice, CA. My concept in creating this composite photo, using Photoshop, was to represent imagination. Contemplating the tree and sky, many visions can occur (different orientations of the tree). This capability of imagination can open the doorway to other possibilities and future projects.Time
The palm tree photo was made in late afternoon. I used Photoshop to heighten the color and saturation of the dates and shifted the hue of greens. The doorway I imported from a free stock photo site.Lighting
I altered the sky and tree colors to produce a sort of surreal effect, to separate the vision a bit from reality.Equipment
The palm was shot handheld with my old Canon EOS 5D. Most of the work to compile image was done using Photoshop.Inspiration
The tree against the sky was striking--but I wanted to create an image that would provoke people's imagination. What does the doorway symbolize? Is the palm tree, with its dates, a symbol of creativity. Once I had the image of the palm, the rest of the final composite photo creation sprang from my own imagination. The vision unfolded as I worked at the computer.Editing

I generally carry my EOS 5D with 3 lenses: a 70-200 mm Zoom; a 16-35 mm Zoom for wide angle shots; and Canon's 24-105, which is usually mounted, when I head out the door. I've got other, more specialized lenses (e.g. a macro), for more specialized shots beyond what the 1st 3 lenses handle best.Feedback
Let your imagination go free as you create composite images. Experiment with perspective, distortions, orientation of the sub images, color. Perhaps you will merge some black & white with color images. Try different versions and compare them. There is a whole world of possibilities.
