Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in a small makeshift studio that I rented for an hour. I've struggled with lighting and wanted to toy with strobes, gels and a gobo (which I had just discovered) through some trial and error, this lighting look was produced. And I couldn't be more happy with the spooky vibes it created for this shoot.

Time

This was about 430 in the afternoon in a makeshift studio with brown paperbags used to block out the windows of any incoming light.

Lighting

This was my first time using a gobo thanks to a fellow photographer for teaching me. And this was all done by strobes, gels and the gobo. I love the spooky vampire vibe that it added to the shoot.

Equipment

I shoot a canon 5Ds with a tamron 24-70, 2 Godox strobes, another generic strobe for the gobo, the gobo filter, 2 softboxes, a ladder (because I was shorter than the model), grey paper backround, blue gels on one strobe, red gels on the other and yellow on the gobo.

Inspiration

It was actually an idea of another photographer who asked me to help with creating.

Editing

No processing and very little editing. Mostly just editing to further make the eyes and fangs pop a but more.

In my camera bag

I shoot with a Canon 5Ds, I carry a 24-70, 85mm and a 50. Along with that, I always carry varioys nd filters (which were not needed here), as well as a speedlight, extra SD cards and batteries.

Feedback

Don't be afraid to fail. Just keep playing until you find the sweet spot.
