My personal favourite as I have grown up with these butterflies throughout my lifetime. They are an endangered species. They migrate from Mexico up through both the Eastern and Western parts of the United States and Canada.

They are under threat due to loss of habitat in Mexico where they spend their winters. Their migration route which is thousands of miles long has also been disrupted by climate change.

The only plant their larval stage will consume is milkweed. Any disruption in milkweed habitat impacts these beautiful creatures.
