Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on the south side of Lake Onalaska in Onalaska, Wisconsin (Just north of La Crosse). My daughter was having her Log Rolling practice at the time, and I was taking pictures of that, and in between runs, I would photograph the scenery.

Time

I took this photograph right at sunset after a very sunny day. I had taken about 70 others of the same spot, but this one of the fisherman really took my eye.

Lighting

The lighting is from the sun setting off to the left. I was pleased with the color that is was giving off with the settings that I was using, so I kept them as they were.

Equipment

The camera that I used was a Nikon DSLR D3200, with a 70mm-300mm Tamron lens. After the sun had set, I used a hot shoe flash to capture the log rollers and the area around me.

Inspiration

It was a beautiful evening. I had mainly come out to photograph my daughter's Log Rolling, but then noticing the nature and other objects around, I found myself breaking off and taking as many pictures as I could within a four hour period.

Editing

I did not do too much with this one, except crop it to about half the size, so that the fisherman was in view. I believe I may have lightly sharpened it to.

In my camera bag

Usually I keep a Nikon 24MP D3200, a Nikon 17mm-55mm lens, a Tamron 70mm-300mm zoom, a hot shoe flash (it has saved me many times), a UV filter, and some of my SD cards, and cleaning equipment. Otherwise, I also have an Olympus 10MP i410 with similar equipment.

Feedback

In this area, know the time of year, and the time the sun will be setting (or even rising) to capture it's best light.
