Whew, it made it, finally bloomed in the last week of August this time. Years ago I planted many different types and colors of dahlias but only one has naturalized, a large beautiful purple. Oddly, by the time it blooms in late summer, the sun starts to wane, so I'll only get a few flowers each year. In my garden which is shaded by the buildings on the hill, there is no sunlight at all during the winter, but full sun in summer, with open gardens on the remaining 3 sides, so it will only have a few weeks of morning sun left, but plenty of light. It's happy where it is and I'm happy with its few beautiful purple flowers each year.
