This photo was taken in the city of Eindhoven. In the past, Eindhoven was flourishing with factories and businesses originating from Philips Electronics. Nowadays many former Philips districts have been rebuilt and restyled with hipster influences. One of such districts is called Strijp-S where this photo was taken.Time
The day I took this photo, it was hot in Eindhoven when I was actually doing a photo walk. I was planning to take photos in very harsh light and shadow conditions. It was exactly 12:51 pm on Saturday 16 July 2022.Lighting
As I wrote, I was already planning ahead in taking pictures under harsh light and dark shadow conditions. During that day, I also took pictures of colorful buildings. The colors popped due to the mid-day lighting. In these pictures of the "Hanging Gardens", besides the trees on the balconies, there are not a lot of colors. But if you will see that the white is popping out in contrast to the dark shadows under the balconies. Which I think strengthens the whole vibe of the photo.Equipment
I've used a Canon 77D / 9000D body with a mounted Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS. No tripod, and no flash obviously. ISO 100 with an aperture of f6.3 and a shutter time of 1/128s.Inspiration
I knew beforehand that this "green" building was already photographed many times after it finished construction last year. Therefore I decided to take another angle and focus on discovering patterns by looking up. I visited in the past a Holocaust memorial monument in Berlin which was constructed out of many concrete blocks. Somehow when I was taking this photo, this somehow reminded me of the structure and pattern of this monument.Editing
I always shoot raw, so I did some raw post-processing. Besides that, I've used Affinity Photo to clean up the photo and increase a little bit the saturation such that the trees would pop out a little bit more.In my camera bag
?I try to keep my equipment bag light and reduce the number of lenses to a maximum of 2. Which in most cases always includes a 50mm 1.8 plastic fantastic prime lense. The lens I mount on my camera body depends on the plan I have for the day I'm taking pictures. Instead of using a wide-angle lens, I nowadays mostly take my 55-250mm lens with me for shooting architecture details.Feedback
Most of the time, photograph enthusiasts will tell you that you have to take a picture during the golden moments at the start or end of the day. This photo shows that you can also capture beautiful moments during mid-day.
