Location
This photo was taken at home in my kitchen.Time

I not only wanted to create a depth of field here, but I also wanted to create a reflection. The way I achieved this was by placing the subjects on a marble kitchen bench and under two lamps in the kitchen. This achieved the desired outcome. If I was to make one self criticism, I would like the background wall to be white for a cleaner result.Equipment
This shot was taken with a Nikon D3300 and a an AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D lens.Inspiration
I wanted to create a bit of a journey with coffee beans. This ended up being shaped into 3 parts: 1. A packet of fresh coffee beans, 2. A sea of coffee beans and 3. A cup of coffee beansEditing
Yes, a little bit of sharpening, highlighting and shadowing. In my camera bag
- A Nikon D330 Body; - A Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM IF with Lens Hood for Nikon Lens; - An AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8DFeedback
The home is a great location for experimentation, trial and error. Do not underestimate the power of the home for "still life" subjects. There is an abundance of things to photograph and some of my favorites include; coffee, beer, watches, spanners, clothes and food etc. For still life, I particularly enjoy the shallow DoF (Depth of field) aspect to the photo. My favorite lens to shoot with for these assignments is my Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D to achieve a really sharp subject with a blurred background. It creates a superb composition and contrast. There is also a plethora of different props to use to achieve lighting for example, marble benches, black trays, black seats, lamps etc.
