Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photo in Downtown Los Angeles.Time
I was driving cross country with a friend, and we did not have a lot of time to spend in any given location. I am a huge fan of architecture, and knew that I wanted to take some photos at the location. The building is located in a busy section of the city, so I arrived at the location at 6:30 am. The area was completely empty, which allowed me to take the photo without having to navigate other folks in the space.Lighting
I very much wanted to capture a clean shot of the edifice without the glare of the sun. So, I decided to take the photo early in the morning before the sun was in position to shine down on the building and create a glare.Equipment
I captured this photo using a Canon 40D with a Canon EF 24 – 70 mm f/2.8 II USM lens.Inspiration
A city’s architectural structures comprise a vast tapestry that tells the story of the city’s evolution. No two tapestries are alike, particularly since they reflect the people, culture, communities, and history of the city. I was inspired to capture a small part of the architectural tapestry that is Los Angeles.Editing
I did not do any post-processing on this photo. I work to bring my full awareness to the photo I am capturing, thereby attending to the details required to produce the photo without the need for post-processing.In my camera bag
These days I don’t leave home without my Canon 5D Mark IV, Canon EF 24 – 70 mm f/2.8 II USM, and Canon EF 70 – 200 mm f/2.8 IS III USM, and a monopod.Feedback
Los Angeles is a treasure trove of architectural wonders. Don’t settle for simply reproducing a photo that has been taken of a particular architectural structure. Instead, take your time, be patient, walk around the space, consider different angles. Doing so will help you compose the shot that really speaks to you.
