This photo was taken on my town's historic main street, and totally on a whim!Time
It had been a summer evening, a little family outing with my sister and nephew just as the sun was setting.Lighting
I wanted to ensure that the streetlights were obviously seen as lit but I also loved the backlight that was spilling in behind the clouds, combining both created a beautiful contrast between the warmth and coolness!Equipment
As I said, this was totally on a whim! I hadn't left the house thinking I'd get any shots in, so this was a lucky capture on my S22.Inspiration
I enjoy taking photos of everyday, mundane items and objects that we often overlook or that we only see as utilitarian and finding a way to showcase their beauty! This often includes objects like street signs and streetlights, as is the case here. Making them the photo's subject reminds people that these simple, everyday objects exist.Editing
The overlap between the lamp and the cloud became quite murky in post, so I had use masking to ensure that they became distinct components and that they each clearly shone through. And since this was on my phone with subpar lighting, I needed to denoise this photo quite a bit!In my camera bag
I'm still a newbie to this whole photography thing! My phone certainly helps me with figuring out compositions and better understanding manual. I currently have one camera and it's my sister's old Canon EOS M50 with the kit lens. I'm really hoping to buy one or two prime lenses soon!Feedback
I think it's important to look at simplistic things and try to see them anew, it opens us up to a whole new world of possibility and it reminds us that we don't need to go hunting in already beautiful places for a good photo.
