Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in a garden in Hyderabad city, India. There were a lot of bougainvilleas in that place. I like capturing flowers as well as children. When two of my favorite subjects came together it looked magical for me.

Time

This picture was taken on the month of March, 2021 around 4.40 pm. The sun was setting and I could see beautiful golden light falling on the flowers.

Lighting

When I saw the setting sun was casting lovely highlights on the flowers, I thought of placing the child I am photographing in the area and the back of her hair looked glowing in that light.

Equipment

This was shot on Canon 6D. The lens used was Canon 135mm.

Inspiration

I like capturing flowers as well as children. When my favorite subjects came together along with the availability of golden sunlight, it inspired me to take this photo.

Editing

I added the falling feather and the flower in child's hand during post-processing. I did some color enhancement and decreased the contrast caused by shadows to give a softer look.

In my camera bag

My camera is Canon 6D and I have a Canon 50 mm, 135 mm and a 24 to 105mm lens, batteries, SD cards and a lens cleaner in my camera bag. Since I use only natural lights I don't carry external lights/ flash etc

Feedback

Look for times like early morning and evening to capture some beautiful back-lit images. Check where the light is falling and place the subject in that area. Make sure that the light is hitting behind the subject. If possible carry a reflector to bounce off light to subject's face or you can increase the brightness during post-processing.
