I remember this shoot like it was yesterday! I was fairly new to newborn photography and working with different types of lighting at the same time. It was a home studio and I had just finished building it. This was my first newborn session after moving in, so I was testing everything out to see what changes I might want to make. Thankfully the Mom had been an old high school friend so I was more at ease with attempting new poses with her sweet little boy, and gosh was he sweet! He slept the entire session. Some of my favorite newborn shoots I've ever taken to this day are his.Time
We started at 11:00 A.M. and shot for about three hours.Lighting
I used a very large ( Sliding Glass Door) on the right side of my clients, with an Einstein Strobe light using a 47" Octagon Soft Box more to the right front corner.Equipment
Canon eos 5D Mark ii with a Canon 50mm 1.2 lensInspiration
The father was a Green Bay Packers Fan! We have lots of yellow and green poses from this shoot!Editing
I did some post processing in Photoshop, typical retouching of the baby's skin and some exposure, saturation, and noise reduction. In my camera bag
My Canon 5D Mark iv and 70-200mm, 50mm, and 100-400mm.Feedback
Posing baby's takes time. You can not rush the process, they completely dictate the shoot. Don't stress, and let the baby show which direction to take. Not every baby can do the same pose, and some are easier to work with than others. It is what it is! Just relax, and take your time, definitely clear your afternoon, these take time, lots of time.
