Foul smelling black arums or stink lilies, from my garden One of these was freshly opened and the other opened for a few days.
Arum palaestinum originated in the Mediterranean Basin, and has been naturalized in North America and other continents so finding one in a backyard here isn't so odd but I've been living here 30 years, never planted them and they just happened to appear in this spot. None of the nearby neighbors have them in their gardens either. That's very strange indeed. Beautiful with their eggplant colored sheaths, just don't bring them indoors.
