But that drummer – the one who could make his drum sound like water dropping into a bucket or like the footfalls of a giant or like rain scattering on a roof – he was the one to watch. He was the one who could make you forget yourself.

Location
This photograph was taken in Mbabane Mpolonjeni at Mountain where I usually go to when I need to calm down and I listen to afro music with a lot of drums so that's how I chose this location.Time
This photo was taken on the 22nd of April 2021. We were taking a walk in the mountains with my friends and we decided to be creative and do the shoot then and there. He was actually playing the drum during the shoot and that made the image more realistic.Lighting
When creating artworks I usually aim to express my emotions, life experiences and also reflect on my childhood memories. Photography being a medium of self-expression, listening to music has been one of the places where I get inspiration and healing. I believe this image healed me in a way.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 7d, 75-300mm using natural light and no flash.Inspiration
The mountains are part of where we often find peace and so infusing that with the drums made the image come together. Being unable to express yourself freely without the use of a camera makes it easy for me to actually feel expressive when certain songs play. I wanted to actually show that music heals and that the drummer plays a very important role in achieving that.Editing
When one is a photographer, he/ she will most likely depend on post- processing to ensure that the final product is meets the expected outcome. I used Lightroom mobile to edit this image, I slightly increased the brightness, clarity and sharpness. I proceeded with including a filter that would make the image look like a fragment of my memories. In my camera bag
I normally just carry my Canon 7D, most of my images are taken using natural light so I rarely carry my Speedlite and my 35mm lense.Feedback
Storytelling through the use of photography is very fun. I believe as a photographer it is always wise to brief the subject about your true feelings and the direction you wish the shoot will take. This enables the subject to actually understand where you are coming from and how they can best interpret your feelings in a way they best understood the concept. Every photographer is unique in the own way, we continuously learn and become better, so practise makes perfect.
