The Kreislehrgarten is a demonstration and school garden of the Steinfurt district in Steinfurt and a unique facility in the Münsterland region. It covers an area of about 30,000 m². In 1914, the garden was established as the "Kreis Obst- und Gemüsegarten" (district fruit and vegetable garden). The garden is a recognized training facility for gardeners specializing in fruit growing. The garden is also important for schools; in the garden there is a "Green Classroom" and an adventure path with 19 stations. Many exotic trees and shrubs, such as the primeval sequoia, the handkerchief tree and wing nuts, are present. The county educational garden is open all year from sunrise to sunset with free admission. The garden is included in the European Garden Heritage Network and has about 40,000 visitors a year.
