This photo was taken at a park, near a lake in Ocala, FL. He was all smiles and having fun with the Easter Eggs and then was interested in my camera, as he tried crawling towards me!Time
With babies, I try to work around their sleep schedules! Usually, they're a lot more happy right after they eat or when they wake up from their naps. He was fun to work with because he had eaten dinner already. Also, I love Golden Hour, you know the time right before the sun sets? I find my photos coming out with a beautiful glow to them. This photo was taken on April 4, 2022 at 6:35pm.Lighting
I love natural and vibrant photos, I also love the "glow" on a person's skin. I try to shoot an hour to two hours before sunset. Especially with kids, I want to give them a little bit of time to warm up to me and get used to being in front of a camera.Equipment
Shot with a Canon EOS RP with a 50mm lens. I also have a lens buddy (it's a monkey) for when I'm taking photos of kids. This allows me to capture them looking directly at the camera instead of elsewhere.Inspiration
We were originally doing Easter photos and they wanted some professional photos done, so capturing these was special for them. I was able to get some of him looking at the camera, playing with the eggs, and looking away from the camera with his drool dripping down his little belly. They came out great and his family loves them.Editing
Just the normal editing in post-processing. Nothing too drastic. I don't believe I had to edit these too extensively. In my camera bag
I have my Canon EOS RP, a 50mm lens and a 24-105mm lens. I also carry my Canon EOS Rebel T6i with a 75-300mm lens. It was the first camera I was using before I upgraded to my RP. I only carry that specific lens because I love bird watching and I am waiting until I can afford a bigger lens for my RP in order to take those photos in trees. I do carry two off camera flashes and my little monkey lens buddy. You never know when you're going to need it.Feedback
My only advice for shooting with kids in particular is to interact with them. Play with them without the camera and then once they start playing with you, you slowly pull the camera out and snap away! With babies and kids, it's hard to get posed photos of them, so I tend to enjoy the more candid shots and genuine smiles.
