Location
This photo of the Rumeli Hisar castle was taken in 1979 or 1980 on the European side of the Bosphorus in Istanbul Turkey. I had my Yashica 124 G twin lens reflex camera loaded with Ektachrome 100 120 film. Today, the second Bosphorus bridge crosses right behind the castle, so this particular view has changed.Time
It had snowed the night before and I walked out of the house later in the morning around 10:00 am. It was early January of either 1979 or 1980.Lighting
It was one of those magical moments when it all came together. There was the right amount of fog on the Bosphorus, the snow was not too contrasty, and the sun light had a little warmth to it.Equipment
I used a Yashica 124 G twin lens reflex camera with Ektachrome 100 120 slide film. A tripod was used to steady the camera. I was a photography student at GWU and processed the film using the E6 chemistry. Unfortunately, the original slide became damaged because of the mounting frames created some sort of glue-like droplets on the film, so I took it to a camera shop twenty-five years later and they were able to save the image and create a 36-megapixel scan which I am completely grateful for.Inspiration
The lighting and composition were exquisite. It was a very beautiful scene.Editing
Yes, I pulled the whites down just a little and added a little sharpening on the scan of the original slide. In my camera bag
Today, I use the Olympus EM1 Mark II body with several lenses. My main go to lens is the 12-100mm F4.Feedback
Get out when it first snows! The world will look magical.
