Sir John Soane's Mausoleum in St Pancras gardens.
The architect Sir John Soane, who designed the Bank of England and whose former house in Lincolns Inn Fields is now a fascinating place to visit, is buried here in the family mausoleum. Soane initially designed it after his wife’s death in 1815 and joined her in 1837. It is one of only two tombs in London with listed status (the other is Karl Marx’s in Highgate Cemetery). The mausoleum is said to have inspired the design for the red telephone box.
