Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in Yellowstone National Park during a cross-country road trip my husband took me on in 2020.

Time

It was late afternoon approximately 4-5pm.

Lighting

I just happened to be standing in the right spot at the right time. We were almost finished with sightseeing for the day. The sun was starting to sink as it was nearing the setting time. It almost looked as if it was peeking around the bend!

Equipment

This photo was actually taken by my Android phone at the time using a camera app that I had downloaded specifically for this trip.

Inspiration

My husband was Executive Chef for the Resorts in Yellowstone National Park for a few years before we met, and he decided to take me on this trip to show me what he loved about this part of the country! As we came around the bend from leaving Artist Point, the way the sun was filtering over the land, with the shadows creeping in, and the river rushing around the bend, I knew it was a sight that I would never want to forget!

Editing

The only thing I did to this photo was darken the blue of the River so I didn’t get lost in the shadows, and to show what I really saw at that moment.

In my camera bag

I normally carry my Nikon with a strap and extra batteries. As this is a hobby for me, I haven’t learned much about lenses and exposures.

Feedback

Since the wild animal rule the park, I suggest snap anything and everything that pulls at your core! And do it quick! You never know when the animals will walk up on you!
