Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on Daytona Beach

Time

Mid-day

Lighting

I was actually waiting for golden hour lighting when I got this shot so I was happily surprised when I saw how it came out.

Equipment

Cannon T3i with 50mm lense

Inspiration

The “Daytona Beach Gulls” are well known for being extremely friendly birds who make themselves scarce on the beach and when they do appear they don’t heckle their fellow beach-goer’s they just stand there rather majestically along the water line and they gather when some locals feed them from time to time.

Editing

Sometimes I will adjust brightness, shadows, contrast etc. if the animal in focus can be enhanced in any way but I typically try to keep my photos as natural as possible.

In my camera bag

I love my telescopic lense and my 50mm lense so that I am able to do portrait’s and landscape / animal shots (my preferred genre) as well as a zoom ball for magnifying / fish eye type effects on the go and a fold up reflector pad for quick lighting fixes.

Feedback

Just sit down, relax, enjoy the view at the beach and wait for nature to come to you. Slowly take your equipment out and wait until they make eye contact for an intense shot.
