Complimentary colours have a great deal of power, creating lively and strong contrast within a photograph. They can provide an intensity to an image that you simply don’t get any other way – Rob Sheppard.
In keeping with the ‘Big’ theme as we continued the travels through NSW, encountering Ballina's ‘Big Prawn’, another of Australia's iconic big things. Built in 1989, the Big Prawn has undergone a makeover and was reopened in July 2013. It now has a tail! It is situated adjacent to Bunnings Warehouse on River Street (which if you try to take the typical touro pic, you get the backdrop of Bunnings – tacky). The Big Prawn stands 9 metres high and weighs 35 tonne. The restoration cost to add a tail and give the prawn a much-needed makeover cost Bunnings $400,000 in 2013. In this photograph, I void most of the body and just focused on the colours. I loved the contrasting colours captured because these combinations make each other pop! Still trying to avoid the typical and ordinary.
