Kentucky Horse Farm

While driving the backroads of Kentucky, I came upon this farm. I really liked the swoop of the fence.

Behind The Lens

Location

We decided that we were tired of driving I75 from Detroit to Florida, so we did the entire trip on backroads. As we crossed The Ohio state line at Ripley we were immediately in the midst of the Kentucky horse farms on a narrow two lane road. There was no room to park, so my wife drove to enable me to pop out of the car quickly.

Time

Even though I know the best time to take pictures is sunrise and sunset, sometimes when you are traveling you work with the time you have. This was shot around 11:00 am.

Lighting

It was a pop out of the car shot, because cars were approaching from both behind and from the front and there was no way for them to get around us.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D7100 with a Tamron 18-270. I propped the camera on a fence post and quickly made numerous shots.

Inspiration

I really like how this fence curved in such a way as to draw your eye to the barn.

Editing

First I used Lightroom to do minor adjustments. Then I transferred it to Topaz to find the filter I liked. After I choose a filter I tweeked the effect. Lastly I sharpened it in Photoscape. I find Photoscape does the best job of sharpening.

In my camera bag

The equipment I usually carry with me is my Nikon D7100 and my Tamron 18-270. For long distance I use a Tampon 150-600. My new favorite camera is the Nikon Z7.

Feedback

Travel the backroads whenever possible, You never know what you will see. Don't let the time of day deter you from taking photos. I take lots of pictures, 90% of them are toss aways, but there is always the one that makes it all worth it.
