Location
This photo was taken during a family outing to the Minnesota State Zoo. As we were walking along and I was chasing my granddaughter, we walked under a pedestrian bridge. These swallows were swooping around and I noticed a nest up in the corner. I grabbed my camera that I had around my neck and fired offsome photos. I'm happy I did, they were probably the best photos of animals that day.Time
This was taken around noon, not a particular great time to take photos but it was under a bridge in shade.Lighting
I had taken a series of shots, they were all a bit under exposed as it was in the shade, bit not terribly underexposed. Only lighting was natural.Equipment
I was using my Nikon d7200 with a kit lens, a 55-300mm DX lens. This shot was at 130mm at ISO 320 f/4.8 for 1/250th of a second. Hand held, no flash.Inspiration
This photo inspired by the nature around us, natural even within a zoo.Editing
Post processing was completed in Lightroom. It consisted of lightening the exposure, and some dodging and burning to bring emphasis on the birds,In my camera bag
I usually carry an assortment of lenses, a flash, tripod and basic extras of batteries and lens cleaning equipment.Feedback
Don't forget to look up, and learn to capture images on the fly without having to set anything up. If the shot isn't exact on its exposure, don't fret. Shoot the shot, nature rarely comes back for a reshoot. Equipment and programs have come a long way. Underexposed is more forgiving than overexposed. And above all else, have fun!
