📍 Llangorse Lake, Brecon Beacons

The replica Iron Age replica Crannog hut overlooking Llangorse Lake under a pastel sky.

I shot this view of the hut at Llangorse Lake after sunrise, but before the sun rose over the mountains. The scene was bathed in pastel tones as the clouds to the west reflected the colourful tones of the of rising sun.

I chose a shutter speed (of 1.6 seconds) long enough to take the edge off the ripples but short enough to retain some detail in the wind-blown reeds. In hindsight I think I should have tried a slightly faster shutter.

Info from Visit Wales ~

"Crannogs are a type of ancient lake dwelling found throughout Scotland and Ireland; they were built out in the water as defensive homesteads, some dating from 5000 years ago.

The Crannog on Llangorse Lake is the only Crannog to be found in Wales or England. It is situated in the waters of Llangorse Lake, which is the largest natural lake in south Wales. The (original?) Crannog was constructed in 916ad, probably by the King of Brycheiniog." (an independent kingdom in South Wales in the Early Middle Ages).
