Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo during a small trip to the nearby area.

Time

Middle of the day, around 1 p.m.

Lighting

The day was rather cloudy, and the light spread evenly, with no shadows. I framed by selecting darker places as the reference point, so the photo seems to be a bit overexposed, but you can see details in the foreground better.

Equipment

I took this photo with an old Sony Alpha 100 SLR, 18 - 55 mm, f/3,5 lens with a grey half filter applied.

Inspiration

I was inspired by the characters of Ents from the novel and the movie based on it, "The Lord of the Rings".

Editing

I use postprocessing quite often. Here too, but I didn't need highly advanced processes. I adjusted the basic parameters a bit. I've sharpened big details. Then I slightly warmed the tone, which made me feel green. I added a subtle randiance and at the end I slightly vignetted it.

In my camera bag

I have 2 cameras that I take in turns: Sony Alfa 100 and Nikon Coolpix S7000. The SLR camera always has 2 filters: UV and half gray. For this you need a foam knee pad, because I will probably be photographing from the lower levels. I also take a crystal ball to play with reflections and necessarily oil for mosquitoes and flying insects. Sometimes a tripod, but I am often lazy and I don't want to take it apart. And necessarily a smartphone with geolocation, if I got lost.

Feedback

When you enter the forest, look in a wide field, sweeping the space from below to the very tops of trees. Make your way to the clearings and spacious places to get a perspective. Interesting tree, walk slowly around the place. It's worth taking a few photos from different sides. Just don't get lost! Constantly pick your landmarks in space!
