Behind The Lens
Location
The shot was taken at the Lake district wildlife park, Cumbria, UK.Time
The shot was captured around mid day.Lighting
The red panda was lying along a large tree branch, around 2 meters high, relaxing in the sunshine, this allowed me to shoot upwards and getting some nice back lighting from the bright sun behind him.Equipment
The camera used was a Nikon D500 in conjunction with the Nikon 200-500 f5.6 zoom lens at around 400 mm.Inspiration
The red panda is known to be a shy animal so seeing this one in a relaxed pose, looking at me, seemingly happy for me to approach it, was too good to miss, I got around 5 shots from slightly different angles, this one being the best one.Editing
It was shot in raw format, converted to jpeg after basic processing in lightroom classic, then a few stray hairs cleaned up in photoshop, a little colour and contrast boost and that was about it.In my camera bag
D500, 50mm prime, sigma 17-70mm zoom, tokina 11-20mm wide angle zoom, nikon 70-300 zoom, nikon 200-500 zoom, nikon speedlight, nd and polarising filters, vanguard travel tripod.Feedback
