This Photo was taken just north of Marathon, Texas back in June of 2021. We ( my wife and I ) had been on a day trip to the Big Bend National Park in Southwest Texas just outside of TerlinguaTime
This photo was taken around 8:45pm as we was on our way back home in west Texas.Lighting
Texas is fairly well known for it's fantastic sunrises and sunsets. Well this sunset did not disappoint at all. The glow was so beautiful as the sun started to go behind the mountains and the orange glow just radiated throughout the valley. It was absolutely beautiful.Equipment
I used a Sony DSLR A100 with a 18mm - 70mm Sony lens, Pluto Trigger for a hands free shutter release and a tripodInspiration
I had fell in love with the blooms from the Agave plants. They are so majestic as they grow so tall towards the sky with it's big bright yellow blooms. Then the combination of the sunset and the mountain in the background, The shot just unfolded into what you see.Editing
As with most of my photography, I do post photo edits. I am a fan of the Adobe Lightroom app. I think that anyone that does any kind of photography can benefit from some post photo editing. I am a huge fan of the vivid and saturation sliders obviously, Sometimes they work perfectly for what i want to express and other times , not so much.In my camera bag
I generally keep it fairly simple. I have my Sony DSLR A100, Sony 18mm - 70mm lens, 100mm - 200mm AF Minolta lens and a Sigma APO DG 70mm - 300mm with a Normal and Macro setting, A Pluto Trigger for wireless shutter control with a few other settings, A couple of filters that I really dont use, Spare cards and batteries, a cleaning kit and a K & F Concepts TripodFeedback
The Big Bend area offers many great opportunities for any photographer at any level to get some great photos. A lot has to do with timing and to keep taking photos of everything that you can. This trip, just one day, I had captured over 580 photos. My wife had started to get a little aggravated from stopping every few minutes to get a shot of whatever. In the end when I had got home and spent a few days in post edit, she understood why and she was ok with it then. So keep your eye on the changing conditions and stay ready, you never know when the next great photo will present itself to you. And make sure to do your post editing...It will make your photo pop!
