It was a series of spontaneous shots, taken at one the beaches surrounding Tuross Heads, located along the eastern coast of NSW. I just can't leave home without my camera; it's my memory and I couldn't bare to miss something unique.Time
After dropping one of the kids at a riding lesson, I had my camera and an hour up my sleeve. Stumbling across these gorgeously tumbled boulders at a nearby beach was an unexpected surprise. Masses of beautifully rounded, seaweed encrusted boulders shimmering gold at the edge of the surf. It was low tide at midday, blazingly hot and cloudless. I haven't seen this again, the elements were all just perfectly aligned in that moment.Lighting
Don't be afraid of harsh light. I often photo in unpopular 'bright, middle of the day' conditions, for the unique challenges and perspectives it offers.Equipment
This one was with my Sony A6100, hand held, no equipment. Those rocks may look lovely, but they were pretty tricky/uncomfortable when I was trying to capture them. A couple of slips, and yeah, bruises afterwards.Inspiration
Like many of my photos, it was unplanned. This time, it was like someone laid out the scene for me, so yes, serendipity and always carrying a camera helps!Editing
Ugh, I hate being on the computer, so I try to get as many elements right as I can in camera. I'm more and more considered these days before I push that shutter button! Beyond basic adjustments, most time was spent on cropping to remove surrounding elements, as no matter how I manoeuvred around on those rocks, I just couldn't crop in shot as I would have liked without compromising the perspective.In my camera bag
A Sony A7II with kit lens, spare batteries, cleaning gear. I used to have a Sony A6100, and I do miss it sometimes, great little camera. Very occasionally I'll take a tripod out, but the anchoring/baggage frustrates me. I do a lot of scrambling around on coastal cliffs, rock formations and will walk for kilometres through state and national forests, so I prefer the agility and options of keeping it light and simple.Feedback
