To photograph this little island, I stepped out of the canoe in the shallows before sunrise, and secured it to an offshore rock, since I didn't want it in the shot, beached on the island. I had the camera on a tripod and took a number of shots as the sky changed, and then waited for the sun to rise above the treeline behind me to illuminate the island. I then blended the two shots in PS.
