Built by Thomas Telford in 1826, this imposing bridge is 417m long and 30m high and spans the Menai Straits between North Wales mainland and the island of Anglesey
Before it was built, farmers would have needed to drive their cattle from the fields of Anglesey to swim the Strait on way to market – it was not uncommon for valuable animals to be lost in the crossing.
This shot was taken from the “Belgian Promenade†that approaches the bridge from along the river. It was so named as it was constructed by Flemish refuges during the First World War
