If you are new to astrophotography, M42 is the target they will suggest that you start with, because it is a very easy capture. The Orion Nebula is a diffuse nebula in the Orion constellation and is our closest star-forming region at ~1300 light years away. Because of its close proximity, M42 is huge and bright...and I would almost say no guiding equipment is needed for decent results. And of course, it is easy to find in the late fall through winter...just look for Orion's Belt rising in the east and scooting in the upper Southern Hemisphere through the night.
