Behind The Lens

Location

This photo is taken in a cold November morning in Christianshavn in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is the most picturesque districts in Copenhagen and is made up of an area of small islands and canals. The canals is lined with colorful houseboats and is known for its hip cafe culture.

Time

I managed to capture many beautiful night cityscape along the canal the night before and wanted some glorious sunrise shots on the location so I remember waking up early in the morning to get to the location. But to my disappointment it was a overcast morning nevertheless I decided to venture out anyway and I capture this shot at 8:23am.

Lighting

Even though it is overcast, the light is quite good that morning and it is also very calm, no breeze thus I get a mirror like reflections from the canal.

Equipment

This picture was taken hand-held without flash or filter with Sony A7R2 on Sony 24-105mm F4 lens.

Inspiration

The beautiful and colourful houses along the canal reminds me of Amsterdam.

Editing

This shot was taken on Raw file and post-processed in Lightroom. I did the usual adjustment on the Basic panel, desaturated the colour of the image and apply split toning to create the look I wanted.

In my camera bag

I had my Sony A7R2 on Sony 24-105mm F4 lens, Sony 16-35mm F4 lens, 10 stop ND filter, a lightweight tripod and 2 additional battery with me.

Feedback

Sometimes the weather might not be what you've wished for but do go out anyway and you might be surprised with the end results.
