Location
This is our beautiful German Shepherd, Ripley who was 11 months old when I took this photo in our backyard.Time
It's not easy to keep Ripley still to take a good photo of her but she was very co-operative on this afternoon. I usually use my Sigma 105 - 600mm lens, so that I can photograph her from a distance as it's best to photograph her when she is not aware of me photographing her.Lighting
This photo was taken in the Golden Hour in the afternoon, so the light is soft and golden.Equipment
I use a Nikon D850 and am working my way through learning to use the Sigma Sports 105 - 600mm lens, hand held. The photo was lightly edited in Lightroom with most of the work done on the background, to make Ripley stand out.Inspiration
Having been in Lockdown a lot over the past 2 years, I was feeling a little stifled by what to photograph. So instead of being frustrated, I decided that even though I was photographing similar subjects all of the time I would try to improve with every photo that I took. So Ripley has become one of my 'Muses' much to her dismay.Editing
I am just learning how to use Lightroom, I was quite scared of trying to use Lightroom. I was watching a Youtube video that said "if you are shooting in RAW then you have to post-process" I'm still making plenty of mistakes but it's good to work the 'old grey matter' and keep learning and progressing. In my camera bag
My camera is a Nikon D850. My main lens used to be a Nikon DX VR AF-S Nikkor18-300mm but I love seeing things up close and the love the detail so I now use my Sigma Sports 105-600mm lens, so I can zoom in. I also love the detail that Macro shows, so I have a Sigma DG Macro HSM 105 1:2.8 . Macro seems to be my greatest challenge.Feedback
