Wood Storks are rather uncommon and classified as “Threatened” by both the State of Florida and the federal government. So, when I saw one working its way along the shallows of the pond some distance from me, I slowly inched my way towards the shoreline ahead of him while keeping a tree between the bird and me. When I got to the tree, I crouched behind it and occasionally peeked around it. But suddenly I was startled to find the bird walking right in front of me. It was so close that I had to zoom out! I held as still as I could and took a series of shots. Then, when I thought he had surely spotted me and was going to fly off, he simply turned and began walking up the bank about 25 feet from me... finally disappearing into some shrubbery. I then stood up and walked away... happy that I finally had some shots of one.
