This image was captured when I stopped by the condemned ruins of Bennett College one fall afternoon while out searching for foliage. The structures were fenced off and protected from trespassers so I took out my telephoto lens to search for detail shots in the old stonework. While I was scanning the building I heard the cry of a raven echo off the buildings. I looked up and found a massive Raven perched on the top of the highest chimney tower screaming out to all that could hear. I snapped a few images and looked down at my camera to check my shots for a split second. When I looked back up the Raven had vanished.
Celtic mythology links the raven to darkness and death as it is the common form of the Celtic war goddess. Other myths, a raven crying over your house is an omen of death. This myth holds some truth for this image because the building is set to be completely demolished this month.
