Mogadishu was a seminal moment for the U.S. military. 19 U.S. Army soldiers died in the effort to retrieve known war criminal Mohamed Farrah Aidid. With the downing of the blackhawk helicopter and the attempt to rescue it's crew members, the U.S. Army lost good men to a barrage of indirect and direct fire. These caskets were in place before the event in case they were needed. On that day we used 19!
