Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my home studio (an unfinished basement that sounds allot more glamorous than it is) in Seattle, Washington. Just at the start of spring when the Daisies started to bloom.

Time

I work a regular day job at a cannabis dispensary this is why I originally be came enamored with macro photography. It was so I could understand my product a little better. This bled over to just about everything we over look in our busy lives so I found this bloom which most take for a simple weed as I was walking up to my house one evening after work.

Lighting

The lighting was provided by 2 very bright LED panels and the background is actually a aluminum clipboard the they keep your charts on in a hospital on that I found at a local thrift store. I thought it would help by reflecting the light back through the Petals of a flower.

Equipment

This one is tricky this is a stacked photo. It was the only way at the time that I could get the detail I wanted. At this time I was just learning the DSLR Cannon EOS 800D I don’t quite remember how many stacks it was but I think my best friend in the setup was a program called Helicon Focus with there remote which makes shooting stack photography in the studio setting a breeze. Since the cannon did not have focus bracketing built in.

Inspiration

We all lead busy lives. I have worn glasses most of my childhood because of a severe case of myopia. So I have always looked at the world close up well as close as I could get with my eyes. I wanted to share with the world what things of true beauty we over look because they are small or not as flashy as what stands at eye level for us in the world we live today.

Editing

Yes in my own experience I have always felt that there are certain areas that need to be touched up some of the layers are blended a bit but generally I try to keep them as close to the original as I can.

In my camera bag

I have a cannon EOS 800D and my Canon EF-S 35mm f/2.8 Macro IS STM. Which does all the hard work I just set the shot.

Feedback

A tripod and good lighting when shooting indoors is just as valuable if not more than how expensive your camera or lens is.
