Behind The Lens

Location

Hi everybody! Thanks for the award! This photo was taken in "Niterói" city (Rio de Janeiro State - Brazil). In the background of the photo (in the shadow, more on the left) you can see "Rio de Janeiro" city (where I live). Both cities are located in Rio de Janeiro State - Brazil). And all the "water" you see in the photo is the "Guanabara Bay", a bay between Rio and Niterói cities, and that we use to cross by ferry boat, to go from one city to another, what use to takes around 20 minutes. I was in a small shopping center located in Niterói city and the shopping has big glass windows on its back, with a view to the bay. One day, I was there, watching the bay when what I supposed would be a beautiful sunset was starting. I decided to catch it. But I was not sure if the photo would be good or not because the only camera I had in hand was my old mobile phone. I had already done photos with the same phone and watching them on my computer, they looked all good. The phne use to make good photos, specially in open places and during the day. But in that moment, besides it was getting dark, almost all what I could see in the bay was far from the place where I was and, still, there was the glass of the window in front of me (I could not open it). Anyway, I tried and got some shots (this photo is one of them). And the result is what you are seeing now. Generally, crossing that bay, in a sunny day, it is possible to catch different views of booth cities: the bay itself, buildings, an airport (sometimes with planes coming and going), ferry docks and also some Rio de Janeiro city rock mountains. And I am really glad that you there had liked my photo!

Time

Well, I do not remember what time it was, exactly, but I believe that it was around 05:00 and 06:00p.m., any day on September/2017, which is the Spring season here.

Lighting

Well, no special care about lighting. I liked the view from that point of the city and, as the sunset was in the very beginning, I decided to catch it, with no special care. I just want to keep it, to have a photo of it to see and remember it , sometimes.

Equipment

I have no special photos equipment, as I am not a photographer. I just like to see good photos. And sometimes I also try some. My "equipment" was a simple SAMSUNG mobile phone camera, model GT-B5722. No flash or neither any other technical resources were used. Presently, it seems that this Samsung mobile model is already off the market. But I intend to keep it to get some photos more, as it is still working fine.

Inspiration

My inspiration, in that moment, was just the beauty of the moment and I wanted to capture that. I did not think about anything else. In fact, I had no special plan to take photos. I just saw and did it.

Editing

No, I did not.

In my camera bag

Besides the mobile phone, I have no other equipment. As I am not a photographer, I have no special equipment neither a great knowledge about equipment, technical resources, etc. My experience is just like a curious amateur beginner. But I hope to get a good camera in the future do better experiences.

Feedback

Well, as I just told before, I am not a professional, so my advice (it is more like a suggestion) it is to take the chance whenever it happens. Watch, observe the nature and all the environment around you, from the ground to sky. Try to notice, even the smallest things. Take photos (at least some, at least sometimes) without a commitment, just for the pleasure to catch the image of something beautiful, interesting, or different from what we have in our daily routine. Or even, try to look closer, look for details we do not use to pay attention most of the time. I´ve seen good photos that seemed to me that the person who did them, had paid more attention to details, or had tried to find something different in the same things we have in the world all the time but we did not pay great attention to them.
