My companion and I chose to take Old La Veta Pass on our way to The Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado instead of taking highway 160 which is known as the north La Veta Pass. The old pass is a rugged dirt road but very scenic, and with some great bonuses at the 9,380 foot summit like this tiny chapel. My friend, who lives in La Veta kept calling the summit "up top" in such a way that I got the impression that is what the locals all call it. This is a digitally enhanced version of this photograph.
