Location
This photo was taken outside in my backyard on a reflective black table with a black couch as a background.Time
I took this photo pretty much in the middle of the day but put it in the shade and with a dark background I was able to darken it to fully black in post while maintaining the highlights.Lighting
I used the shaded sun and had a dark background to create empty space around the subject.Equipment
I had my camera (Panasonic S5) and lens (Sigma 50mm f/1.4 L-Mount) as well as a reflective table that I already owned for non photography purposes.Inspiration
I always wanted to try product type photography and this is my first actual attempt at the genre.Editing
Yes, I darkened the image to hide the fact that it was the middle of the day and the background was a dark couch, I then brightened the highlights, pulled back a little on the whites and darkened the shadows and blacks. I also changed the temperature to be slightly more blue.In my camera bag
I normally have my camera, lens and a spare batteryFeedback
Not sure I am good enough to be giving out advice but I found that shooting at f/1.4 meant that I was constantly missing focus and you should not be afraid of closing down to increase the depth of field but also try maintain a fast shutter speed to freeze the water. Shooting in a bright location allows this without having to increase ISO too much and as long as you have a dark background you can decrease the exposure in post to get the background black. Also P.S shoot raw if you can, it makes editing a lot easier and more flexible.
