From the entomological point of view, Jiminy Cricket isn't much of a cricket at all. In the beginning he was drawn more life like, but crickets were viewed as unpleasant, grotesque looking so Jiminy Cricket was reworked to be more appealing to the eye. In the end the only way we know he is a cricket is because we are told so in his name. Besides, I guess Jiminy Grasshopper just really doesn't flow with fluidity.
