Location
I took this photo in my front garden. We have some great plants for insects and in the summer there is always a lot of activity to capture. As an amateur photographer I love to try new approaches and new angles to photographing subjects.Time
This photo was taken in the afternoon. I was trying to use off camera flash for macro photos and this is one of my favourite results from those first few attempts.Lighting
I used an off camera flash set to high power off to the side. The flash allowed me better control of the light in the scene.Equipment
I use a Canon 90D with a 60mm Canon macro lens. For the flash I had a Canon 430II with a Godox remote trigger to allow me to position the flash where I needed it.Inspiration
I love macro photographs seeing the detail of life up close. Most people just see wasps as a nuisance but up close you begin to see them differently. The same is true of all insects if you take the time to look.Editing

I usually carry a 60mm for close up work and a wide angle zoom 10-18mm for landscapes. I love the fact that I can also use them both the other way around as well. I also carry some LED lights for macros and a platypod for a low down platform.Feedback
One thing I’ve learnt over the years is to keep shooting. Fill the card. With insects you never know what you will find so keep going and you will be rewarded with some great shots. Also play with the light. Flashes give you more control and you can shot at faster speed which can be important when shooting insects that move quickly.
