Location
This beautiful girl has lived in our backyard for a number of years now. An Australian Eastern Water Dragon (Intellagama lesueurii), she takes possession of the swimming pool for the warm half of the year and is a large part of the reason it's being converted from pool to pond.Time
The photo was taken mid-afternoon on a warm spring day which is why she's bright and active. It's a great time of day to shoot reptiles because they're charged up on sunshine.Lighting
The dragon was in a small tree beside the pool, so in the shade but with plenty of reflected ambient light.Equipment
This is shot with a second-hand Nikon D3200, an AF-S DX VR Nikkor 55-300mm 4.5-5.6G ED lens at full zoom, handheld and manual focus.Inspiration
I'm blessed with a fantastic, if somewhat unkempt, suburban backyard that adjoins a large conservation reserve. There's a constant ebb and flow of wildlife that presents never ending opportunities to shoot. I share a regular "Back Verandah" series with my social media family. A lot of my best bird photos are taken from the breakfast counter in our kitchen.Editing
I don't think I did much at all to this shot. I may have boosted the contrast very slightly but other than that it's pretty much as it came out of the camera. In my camera bag
Nikon D3200, a long zoom, a short zoom, a wide-ish prime, remote shutter release, intervalometer, spare capture card, spare batteries, tripod, Olympus Tough submersible camera, flashlight, snacks...Feedback
