Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was aunexpected and unplanned, but I had my camera in hand. It's in the back room of a local earery, where regulars hang out. I didn't know they had a table until I heard the crsck of the Q-ball. Lapu-Lapu City, Philippinmes

Time

Early evening.

Lighting

I was shooting in available light, and had to push the ISO up to get a reasonable shutter speed for a hand held shot. The girl farther away was made brighter in post.

Equipment

Shot this with my old Pentax K20d, with a Sigma 17-50 f2.8 DC Lens. This worky very well on my K20d. No flash, just available light, which was primarily an overhead florescent.

Inspiration

I was drawn by my curiosity to see where the pool room sounds were coming from: but seeing the girls playing pool was irresistible.

Editing

Had yo do some work on the girl at the far end of the table, to pull her up out of the shadows. I did very little to the closer girl, just to keep her shadowy, so you have to look harder.

In my camera bag

I travel light, with only my camera and just one lens. I likey to shoot late afternoon and early evening street and market sceens. I like a wide angle, shot zoom lens for this.

Feedback

My advice is to shoot as much and as often as possible in the settings and light you like, so you will already know so good exposure settings for your rxpected situations.. Then pre-set your camera so you're ready when that interesting shot appears in front of you.
