Location
This photo was captured during a special Red Bull Tow-in Big Air session. The beautiful scenery is located at the Flagler Beach Pier.Time
The windy afternoon made for some great contrasts on the ocean caused by the high noon sun and unrelenting wind swell waves. I remember as the sun crept higher in the sky, getting closer to the tow in session to begin and thinking to myself that this is the perfect time of day for this type of photo.Lighting
The lighting was simple, all natural. I was at the mercy of mother nature and the tow-in surfers talent.Equipment
I try to keep my equipment simple. One of the most important items I carry with me is a microfiber cloth to clean the lense constantly. Next obviously is my Canon Rebel T2i that was handed down to me as a gift to help further my gift of photography. Next is not an item per say but a part, a body part. My knees provided the perfect stabilizer while the camera was being held in my hands. Sitting on the beach with just a camera in your hand and your toes in the sand, priceless.Inspiration
Everyday I am inspired to improve life one capture at a time. This is just an example of how a moment can be captured that can never again be duplicated. A truely one of kind, art form if done correctly. And being an avid surfer myself, I love to capture moments like these to keep in my collection for my own inspiration in a time of waves or no waves.Editing
I love to enhance a photo to bring it to its full potential. Even this photo has a few simple enhancements. I used some contrast enhancement to bring out the ocean along with the spray from the surfer. I used a slight color saturation enhancement to make the colors more dramatic. As always I try to keep all my photos realistically looking after post production. In my camera bag
I try to travel light wherever I go. Besides the surfboard I had with me that day I only had my camera and two lenses with me. This was when I was first beginning professional photography. I didn't have a camera bag or anything to put my extra lense in. So I wrapped a small hand towel around it for safety reasons and then placed it in a zip lock bag for extra precaution. My camera and other lense are assembled already for quick easy access.Feedback
Whether your just a beginner or a seasoned veteran in photography, you must take care of your equipment no matter what lengths you must take. Try to visualize your photo before it is captured. Simple is often better. Look what just a camera and its operator can achieve.
