Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a remote location in NJ that used to be a volcano! There is now a farm there

Time

It was probably about 4pm when this photo was shot. A mostly clear sky, and sun was on the other side of the building

Lighting

When working with people, I try to avoid hard shadows. I love the softness of the human figure so avoiding the sun & shooting in the shade was primarily my goal

Equipment

This was shot on a Sony A7ii with a 50mm prime lens

Inspiration

The color of this building! For being such an old building, it was still so vibrant. At the time, I was going through a red phase where a lot of my photos were warmer tones. I loved the contrast of the blue sky to balance this out and soften it a little

Editing

I always do a little light/color correcting in Raw. Especially when shooting outdoors & on the move, you're limited on equipment in an uncontrolled setting. I did adjust the colors to be slightly more vibrant, as well as trying to matte out the blacks to give this a moodier feel.

In my camera bag

I always carry extra memory cards! I tend to go through them so quickly. I keep lots of fun items to play with as well. Different lens filters, prisms, flash gels, etc.

Feedback

For me, this is a feeling. A soft figure against a linear setting. A harsh red next to a soft blue. Its a feeling of balance. A sort of yin-yang. Look for these subtleties around you
