Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Kedarnath, India. I always love to capture images that intrigues me to the core and also portrays something beautiful.

Time

This is one of my favorite portraits which I have captured till date. I visited Kedarnath with my parents in 2017 where I found this man sitting on a chair in front of the Kedarnath temple. What I liked the most about his face was his smile that was so full of life. I captured this image on October 7th, 2017 at 3:18 PM.

Lighting

I wanted this image to look captivating from the viewer's perspective as the eyes and the smile of the person in the image draws your attention. I liked the colors but wanted to have this particular image in monochrome as it was removing the attention from other not so noticeable things.

Equipment

This was shot on a Sony HX200v Point and Shoot camera without a tripod/flash.

Inspiration

I was in the queue to pay visit to the Kedarnath temple where I came across a group of people having a laugh and that's what caught my attention because you don't normally get such candid frames and especially when the attire of the person was so different. It inspired me to take some random shots and this particular image came out really well.

Editing

I cropped the image as the frame had other faces too which were making the image less appealing. Also, I sharpened the image along with some brightness and contrast adjustments.

In my camera bag

I normally carry my Canon 700D body with Canon 50mm 1.8 prime lens which gives me great strength when it comes to low light shooting and portraits. Along with that, I also carry a Canon 24mm 2.8 prime lens that gives me the liberty to click anything around me. The last lens which I carry with me in the bag is the Tamron 70-300mm F4-5.6 lens which gives me great range and control while travelling. I also carry my Sony HX200v point and shoot camera because it's something that covers all aspects of wide range photography I wish to capture my camera with.

Feedback

One must always look for candid moments around him to capture such images. There is no hidden technique behind it. It's very much intuitional and once you get a perfect shot, it gives you a great feeling.
